Company A
14th Battalion
Georgia Light Artillery

Company A, 14th Battalion Georgia Light Artillery was formed as the Southern Rights Battery in March of 1862 in Houston County, Georgia.   The distinguished battery was later known and Palmer's Battery and then as Havis's Battery.  The battery in recent years has been portrayed in Living History events by  Captain Leon Lovett of Wrightsville, GA,  as Southern Rights Battery and by Captain Mike Burch of Hayneville, GA, as Havis's Battery.

Southern Rights Battery participates in living history events, memorial services and an occasional battle reenactment. They have participated in ceremonies at Fort Stewart commemorating the Feast Day of St. Barbara, patron saint of artillerymen, for several years, upholding for today's cannoneers the honorable traditions of their forebears. The unit has also appeared in the following films: North-South II, Glory and the introductory film at the Cyclorama in Atlanta, Georgia. These appearances have not always been made wearing grey. Captain Lovett is a descendant of members of the original Confederate battery and has been a collector and exhibitor of vintage military vehicles and ordnance for many years. One of his most prized possessions is an original Phoenix Iron Company 3 - Inch Ordnance Rifle manufactured in 1864.

Havis's Battery assumed the mission of fire support for historic sites such as Andersonville, Fort McAllister, Rose Hill Cemetery and Griswoldville. The unit also attended annual battle reenactments at Olustee, FL, Greensboro, GA & Clinton, GA.   In June of 2000, the battery lost is 10-Pdr Parrott to the foibles of contemporary life and its able bodied cannoneers furloughed until procurement of a replacement.
