1st Georgia Regiment
Company "C"

 

This command was Co. "C", First Georgia Regiment. It was formed in Perry, Georgia from the men of Houston County. The unit entered service March 18th, 1861 and served one year. Then the surviving members joined other commands, most of them going to the Southern Rights Battery.

James Andrew Houser graduated from The Citadel in 1850.  Records show that he graduated second of 13 graduates from his class and served as a Captain of Georgia Volunteers in 1861.  Capt Houser trained the unit in company drill, marksmanship, swordsmanship, and tactics.  The unit, organized in Perry, GA was mustered into service in March of 1861.  Source:  History of the South Carolina Military Academy 1783-1892 by Col John Peyre Thomas, class of 1851.
